We treat them with the Love
and Respect they Deserve
This rescue began in June
of 2005 in memory of Rascal...the love of my life. Love does not die.
Friendship isn't about
who you have known the longest.
...but about who came
and never left your side.
As of
December 2009 we have personally SAVED
103 horses, ponies and mules primarily from
SLAUGHTER!
We have assisted HUNDREDS of
others. 99% of our time is spent
CARING
for the horses and the small farm animals still with us, so please FORGIVE
the delays in updating the
website! We refuse to waste
countless hours sitting in front of a computer when the horses need us!!!
Phone if you are wondering about a specific horse that has not been
updated yet!
Please contact us if you too believe our next generation needs to be
taught to treat all living beings with dignity
and if you believe all "blue collar"
working equines deserve the right to retire in peace and comfort.
Join our mission to save, educate and
ultimately change the world for the animals.
One horse at a time.
Our mission is to save slaughter
bound horses, ponies and mules, rehabilitate them as necessary and give
them a second chance at life and love. We look for forever homes
and offer sanctuary for as long as needed by each individual horse.
We are prepared to care for each horse we save for
the rest of their lives, this is one principle that separates us from
other "rescues".
We do not 'release' each horse into his new life
with a 'good luck' pat and turn the other way, we retain 'ownership' of
each horse for life, so if anything happens in his life again to put him
in harms way we can help once again. We do not turn our backs
on our horses and we do not utilize euthanasia as a means of thinning
the herd as many do. Quality of life is
first and foremost and we strive to meet EVERY need EVERY horse has.
We speak for the horses,
especially the equine work force. The racehorses, show horses,
police and carriage horses, lesson horses and therapeutic horses no
longer able to perform. We are often their last hope.
Amaryllis operates a 'senior horse'
center for special needs horses...the
visually impaired, unsound, aged or with varying physical or emotional
issues which render them inadaptable to an adoptive home.
These special horses have every right to
live a happy and peaceful life and we intend on allowing them to do just
that.
Thrown away once and saved off a
slaughter bound truck, these horses almost all EARNED their
pensions........the greedy humans had stolen that from them too.
As
you scroll through the Horses Index page, you will see "special"
marked next to the horses who's futures are promised by Amaryllis.
These are horses you can and should visit
(by appointment)
to tell them they are appreciated and loved for who they are and not
what they can do. Please
help us meet their feed and medical care needs.
Domestic horses are the most dependent of ALL animals
and yet receive the LEAST support!
Please do NOT retire, adopt out or lease your horse without checking
up on them, even at a rescue. It cost us a lot of money to
'purchase' a horse to save him from the fraudulent rescue he was in.
Your horse's life depends on you doing your homework! Don't release your
horse to a rescue that uses primarily foster programs (how exactly are
they regulated and what happens when the foster decides they have
changed their mind and want the horse to move out? where does he go?),
or a vet research facility (let them experiment on already deceased
horses) or college programs (they will be ridden by hundreds of
different riders and then face the auction anyway). We have all watched
or saved college horses, lesson horses, therapeutic riding horses, pony
party ponies, summer camp horses and petting zoo donkeys heading direct
to slaughter after a work season. Many of these horses had a caring
owner who believed they were placing the horse in a safe environment
where children would love on them and they would live a wonderful life.
Place a legally binding contract on your horse whether you sell him or
adopt him out. Require the 'rescue' you donate your horse to have
TRANSPARENCY regarding your horse's current and future living
arrangements! And don't believe everything you hear. SEE FOR
YOURSELF!!! Your horse will thank you.
Do you KNOW for sure where and how
your horse is?
New!
We have just included a new
button called the "Horses Index" which simplifies finding most horses on
the site and is the only place to find new admissions. Use the links
below if the sidebar buttons are not working properly.
1. I wish to be with you all the days of my life. Separation from you is
painful for me.
2. Give me time to understand what you wish from me. I love you, please
be patient. I am trying
my best.
3. Trust in me as I trust in you.
4. Don't be angry with me, I love you and need you. You are all I have.
5. Talk with me, tell me your dreams and hopes. I want to be there as
they come true. I will never
leave you.
6. Treat me with respect so I can honor you.
7. I am so sensitive, a small fly can upset me so! Please never strike
me. I am here to serve you.
I love you.
8. If I act out of character, please try to find out if something is
hurting me or if I have a reason. I
am never "bad" without good reason.
9. Take care of me when I am old, you have been my life. I will need you
more as aches and
pains begin. I would never leave you.
10. Be with me as I take my last journey. Please be brave and strong for
me as I was for you in
my youth. Allow me my dignity.
Hold my head and tell me of the wondrous place I will go to await you. I
love you and I will
wait for you. When your time finally comes...
I would be honored to carry you into Heaven my trusted friend.
The Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act (H.R. 503/S. 727)
will end the slaughter of horses for human consumption and the
domestic and international transport of live horses or horseflesh for
human consumption.
The Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act (H.R.
503) was introduced in the U.S. House on January 14, 2009 by Congressman
John Conyers (D-MI) and Congressman Dan Burton (R-IN). An identical
version (S. 727) was introduced in the Senate on March 26, 2009 by
Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and veterinarian and Senator John Ensign
(R-NV).
